We’ve got this goth rocker on stereo repeat.

It turns out Wisconsin is not a terrible place to launch a music career.  You can practice during the long winter months without leaving your house.  You can study opera at prestigious programs in Madison.  And you can lock yourself away watching Italian horror movies from the ’70s until you get your look down just right.

At least, that’s what happened with 21-year-old Nika Rosa Danilova, the midwest singer now known as Zola Jesus. After starting opera lessons as a kid, Nika started recording her own tracks at 14, and – eventually – found a back beat and a bass line.

Now Zola Jesus is on a conquer-or-bust tour across America and the UK.  And based on the whispers we’ve heard in the past few weeks, she’s definitely whipping a new fan base into shape.
